About Us

For over 15 years Digicomp, Inc. has reliably provided the forms industry with high productivity forms design software and proprietary file conversion solutions. Our design products utilize the industry standard QuarkXPress graphics engine to prevent our clients from being chained to proprietary graphics systems. Our products uniquely feature 100% cross platform compatibility (Macintosh and Windows), shortest of learning curves, low cost, and the highest designer productivity of any forms design software.

In 2006 Digicomp became an official Quark Partner and began providing forms management and automation solutions to the enterprise. We have provided best-in-class solutions to government institutions, hospitals, manufacturers, and even to a top-ten bank in the world. These systems work reliably around the clock and delivered broad smiles to forms analysts and many forms management professions in a number of countries.

Industry Standard Document Solutions

Digicomp has an established track record in the forms industry dating back to the early 90's and continues to execute its mission to deliver those in the forms industry out of the hands of proprietary, costly systems and into the safe and secure world of industry standards.

Our rich history in the forms industry has led us into partnership with several of the biggest names in forms manufacturing, as well as a great number of independent manufacturers around the world and distributorships great and small.

Our enterprise class forms management, authoring, and production automation solutions has broadened our market to the full spectrum of forms creators - from the work-at-home forms designer to the largest of government institutions and business enterprises.

Product History

PilgrimX

In 1991, Digicomp started commercial software development based upon the requests of Purup Red System users to transfer their vast library of forms and images from the discontinued proprietary system into something else. After thousands of hours of development, the initial customer feedback was disheartening: the need for conversion was critical, yet we had committed a substantial error in judgment - the conversion was from one proprietary system into a different, yet still proprietary system. "This will not do" reported one prospective user, "we're not going to step from one sinking ship into another". Humbled, we inquired of the potential users which system they sought to migrate to, and the answer was unanimous: QuarkXPress. They had been burned by one proprietary system going bust, and they were not about to make the same mistake again. The answer was to never to depend on a software "dinghy" of a boat for such a critical component of their workflow, but rather a stable ocean liner: QuarkXPress, the industry standard workhorse for commercial graphics.

After a substantial conversion of itself, PilgrimX was reborn as an XTensions module for QuarkXPress 3.0 on the Apple Macintosh platform (still based upon the Motorola 68000 series processor at the time).

FormsX

Now that PilgrimX was doing a wonderful job converting artwork (mostly forms and labels) into QuarkXPress, a new request came forward. While wonderful at what it does, QuarkXPress was never designed specifically for forms design. QuarkXPress excels at image manipulation, typography, color handling, bulletproof PostScript generation, etc., but lacked many of the specific tools forms manufacturers needed to produce new composition, certainly in a respectable amount of time. Out of this need arose FormsX - an XTensions module created to take a "generic" commercial graphics layout application and add to it in such a way that the result would be a forms designers' dream.

We initially carried forward many of the wonderful ideas started in the Purup Red System world, and then added the good ideas of other forms software that had died off. The result was a combination of features any forms designer could be immediately comfortable with. Later on, with the demise of the F3 Software corporation, we harvested some of the good ideas/principals of the discontinued (and proprietary - see a trend here?) "Bloc F3" and "ProDesigner Windows" packages, enabling longtime F3 users to find a welcome home in FormsX. With the release of QuarkXPress 4.0, we also ported the codebase of FormsX to that of a crossplatform format, enabling us to simultaneously release FormsX 4 for both the Windows and Macintosh platforms. This critical milestone allowed users of FormsX to not even be tied to one specific platform. Their library of design files can be opened and edited on either platform, as the file formats are designed explicitly to do so.

Our philosophy is to offer multiple ways of performing the same task, allowing the designer to choose which way works best for them, knowing all the while they will choose what is most productive (requires the least amount of time) for their situation. The purpose of FormsX is ultimately to massively increase the productivity of those designing business forms, and independent third party studies have proven this fact conclusively.
